Twelve Days of Christmas: Eighth Day

In Lessons from a Small Town

Dad decorating our tree in 1974

My mother’s brother and his family lived in Germany. Every Christmas we waited for a big wooden crate to arrive from Europe packed with beautiful gifts and German treats. One year, he sent a velvet angel tree ornament. Our precious angel sat on top of our family Christmas tree for many years. I have always loved angels. Therefore I have many angels around the house for different seasons and special occassions. From time to time they whisper to me. But my most special angels are my Christmas angels.

On the Eighth Day of Christmas my true love gave to me,

eight Christmas angels,

new and old Christmas angels

seven pickle liqueurs,

antique ice bucket and pickle liqueurs

six cookie cutters,

three generations of cookie cutters

five…Christ…mas cards,

My favorite Burgess Christmas cards 1956,1957,1960,1961,1963

four vintage snowmen,

old fashioned snowmen candles   purchased in 1990’s

three special balls,

David’s, Samantha’s and Richard’s ornaments

two wooden skis,

Kim’s wooden skis
            ( circa 1956)

and a Christmas plate for Santa’s midnight snack.

We are flying high now!

Love the picture of your Dad decorating the Christmas tree. That is just too funny. Thanks for sharing.

I think that was the year he wired it to the wall to keep it from falling over! That’s an engineer for you.
Merry Christmas to you and your family

I know as an engineer myself that sounds reasonable. Nails, wire, string, and/or duck tape fixes just about anything.:-) Merry Christmas to you and your family.
