Thanksgiving Glad Game: Day #4

 In Inspirational

I am glad I was raised in a small town. Ames, New York is still the smallest incorporated village in New York State. When I lived there in the ’50’s and ’60’s, about 200 residents filled the homes of the single street town.

E.B. White called Ames the loveliest town of all. He even named a chapter in his book Stuart Little after my home town.

We did not lock doors. Neighbors knew neighbors. The aroma of home-baked pies drifted out of the screen doors in the summer and chimneys spewed smoke in the colder months.

I am glad I grew up in Ames.

Kim you are so right in the wonderful feelings that Ames, NY invoke in each of us who had the privilege of growing up there in the 5o’s and 60’s. I know I cherish my memories now that I am 3,000 miles away and much older now. Love your writings. Glad to have known all you girls growing up.
