4 Tips to Tune into Your Whispers

 In Grief

dandelion-bgI can’t imagine my life now without my whispers.

A 1977 whisper turned me into a best friend, a wife and a mother. That was good. But 15 years later, a loud and frightening whisper left me a widow.

Whispers are those nagging little feelings that start deep down in your gut. From your belly, they migrate to your heart where they are layered in emotions, feelings. Here they find their strength, their power.

Sometimes, whispers act like a wild electrical current and surge to the brain. But this can be troublesome, because not all whispers are rational. So you need to push them back down to your heart where they belong and learn to trust them. You need to believe in them.

Whispers do not always bring good news, but they demand to be heard. Their messages are important and intended for your ears only. They lead you to a more authentic life and can become your trusted friends.

On one of Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday shows, Oprah talked to Dr. Christiane Northrup, a leader in the field of woman’s health and wellness, about the importance of trusting your inner wisdom for a rich and rewarding life. Dr. Northrup went on to advise listeners to “stay open to yourself”.  That is exactly what whispers do! They allow you to hear the wisdom of your bigger self, if you listen to them.http://www.oprah.com/own-super-soul-sunday/Full-Episode-Oprah-and-Dr-Christiane-Northrup-Video

But it takes practice and courage to listen to your whispers.dandelions-bg-1

In 2005 Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Computer and Pixar Animation Studios, made his famous commencement speech at Stanford University.  Oh, how I wish he were still alive so I could discuss whispers with him. I know he understood the concept when he advised his audience,

“…Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition”

Whispers live in your heart. Whispers are your inner voice. Whispers are your intuition.

So I want to help you to understand how to tune into your whispers. I want you to feel their power.

Here are 4 Simple Basic Tips to get you started:

  1. Find a quiet place, preferably close to nature

  • a private corner in your backyard
  • an empty park bench
  • pull a chair close to a window with an outside view

2. Start a dialogue with your inner voice, your authentic self

  • Is there a nagging issue?
  • Is there a reoccurring need?
  • Prayers can be a beginning.

3. Focus on your feelings not your thoughts

  • Tune into your heart’s voice
  • By-pass your brain and its rational thinking

I passionately believe in the power of my whispers. Whispers are the nucleus of your bigger self.

In Oprah’s show, Dr. Northrup reminded the viewers that “a part of you is eternal”. I believe whispers are a vital component of that part.

I hope that I have given you some useful tools to get started on your whisper journey. Feel free to share your experience with me. My wish for you is a feeling of satisfaction and joy as you turn up the volume and learn to listen to your whispers.
