The Daily Shell: Number Thirty-four

“Sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me. Call me this and call me that but call yourself a dirty rat.”

As a little girl, I engaged in my share of playground taunts. But now, as an adult, I take issue with my juvenile chant. Words do matter. Since I can only control my own, I try very hard to choose my words carefully and think before I speak. After all, I have to own the impact of each one.
