In the Soup Again

 In Book & Story News

I am happy to report that I am In the Soup Again!

My story is “Not About Me”

Being In the Soup Again is a place I like to be. This story makes the fourth time that I have been published in the Chicken Soup for the Soul series. The challenge to write a true story in 1200 words or less appeals to me. The competition is stiff. Only 101 stories are published in an issue out of thousands of entries.

The wedding of my father to his new wife Grace inspired me to write my story titled,  Not about Me.

Dad and Grace cutting their wedding cake (1/15/16)

With a watchful eye, I observed my father navigate his grief journey after the passing of my mother in December 2013.  The untimely death of my husband in 1993  introduced me to the heartache of grief. It is a slow, arduous  journey. I was not sure if my father had spent enough time  processing his loss. I wanted to protect him. But, years were not on his side. The runway was short. He wanted to get married again.

My desire to insulate my father transcended into the realization that his happiness was on his terms. It was Not About Me.
